A new statue that realistically and historically depicts General Francis Marion was erected on campus Monday, Sept. 28. Dr. Lorin Mason, a former chairman of the board of trustees contacted the school in the summer of 2008. He had discovered a model of a statue of Francis Marion that he really liked and wanted to purchase that statue and donate it to the University.
Sen. Lindsey Graham said that politics in America have become too closely related to those in the Middle East and that lawmakers need to learn to work for the good of the entire country instead of the interests of individual groups. "No matter how many problems we have in our country, if you try to be everything to everybody, you will fail," Graham told a group of students, faculty and concerned citizens at a town hall meeting at Francis Marion. "This country needs to stop Mid-East politics. When President Obama, who I campaigned and voted against, won the election, then I give him deference. I am worried about our country. We can't get along and agree on anything."
Students showcased their abilities at the talent show, hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta, on Thursday, Sept. 24 in the Chapman Auditorium.
The Hispanic Heritage Month Program kicked off this year's diversity series on Sept. 20 in the Chapman Auditorium. Attendees gained insight into immigration issues and their effects on society at the event, which lasted from 4-6 p.m.
